Kisspeptin

Kisspeptin is a neuropeptide produced in the hypothalamus. It marks the start of a signalling pathway that regulates reproductive hormones.

Mechanism of action under investigation

Research has shown that kisspeptin stimulates the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). GnRH then triggers the pituitary gland to release the gonadotropins LH and FSH, which in turn act on the gonads. Kisspeptin thus acts, in research, as a key ‘upstream’ link in the HPG axis, making it a central molecule within reproductive endocrinology.
