TB-500 (Thymosin Beta-4)

TB-500 is derived from Thymosin Beta-4, a small protein found in virtually all the body’s cells. It is one of the most common actin-binding proteins: it binds to individual actin units, thereby helping to regulate the assembly and disassembly of the cytoskeleton.

Mechanism of action under investigation

Preclinical research is investigating how this fragment influences the regulation of actin and, consequently, processes such as cell migration and tissue organisation. Its role in the formation of new blood vessels is also a topic of research. Research often makes use of in vitro models with cultured cells, in which cell migration can be measured independently of the complexity of a whole organism.

These mechanisms are derived from in vitro and animal studies. They describe the research context and do not constitute evidence of efficacy in humans.

Research into Thymosin Beta-4, the basis of TB-500, dates back to the work of Allan Goldstein and his colleagues, who described the thymosin family. Subsequent preclinical studies investigated fragments in relation to cell migration and tissue maintenance.

Status of human research

TB-500 has not been authorised as a medicinal product. Research into TB-500 itself is predominantly preclinical, whilst the broader protein Thymosin Beta-4 has been investigated in a few clinical studies. As a research material, TB-500 is intended for laboratory use only. In the literature, it is often studied alongside BPC-157; document both peptides separately, each with its own purity determination and batch number.

It is important for researchers to distinguish TB-500 from the full Thymosin Beta-4 protein: TB-500 is a shorter, synthetic fragment that can be studied in a more targeted manner. This distinction makes it easier to compare experiments across laboratories, particularly when combined with consistent purity that is documented for each batch.

TB-500 is supplied as a lyophilised powder and reconstituted in the laboratory using bacteriostatic water. The steps below describe laboratory procedures for research purposes only.

1. 1Allow the vial and the bacteriostatic water to reach room temperature.
2. 2Wipe the rubber stoppers of both vials with an alcohol wipe.
3. 3Add the bacteriostatic water slowly, running it down the side of the vial.
4. 4Gently swirl the vial until the powder has dissolved; do not shake.
5. 5Store the solution in the fridge and label it with the date and batch number.

Combining approaches in research

In clinical trials, TB-500 is often studied alongside BPC-157 because the two peptides act via different mechanisms. For a ready-to-use combination, there is the BPC-157 & TB-500 blend. Document each peptide separately, with its own batch number and purity.
